SET OF SIX LARGE FAUTEUILS "À LA REINE"

Régence, France ca. 1720/40.
Beech, carved with acanthus leaves, palmettes, blossoms and latticework, and gilt. Padded seat and padded backrest. Red velour cover.
73 × 75 × 108 cm.

Gilding heavily reworked. Losses and signs of wear.

Provenance, according to historical sources:
- Probably part of the collection of the Palazzo Colonna in Rome, until 1999.
- Roman private property.
- Suisse-romande art dealer, January 2008.
- French art dealer, May 2008.
- Suisse-romande private property, acquired from the above.

The exact provenance history of these imposing fauteuils cannot be fully traced. However, an almost identical item is illustrated in Eduard Safarik's 1999 monograph on the Palazzo Colonna in Rome (cf. Eduard A. Safarik, 'Palazzo Colonna', Edizioni De Luca, 1999, p. 117, Ill. 206). In the Palazzo Colonna, the armchairs were in the second antechamber of the Piano Nobile of the Cardinal's chambers.
