What brought the watch world into turmoil more than 40 years ago has now become a cult object: The sporty and elegant Nautilus by Patek Philippe. A watch made of steel did not fit the cliché of gold luxury watches - even more so with this eye-catching size and extravagant shape. Patek Philippe's goal was to appeal to a new generation of active, sporty people. The launch of the watch was supported by an advertising campaign that was as original as it was cheeky: "One of the most expensive watches in the world is made of steel!" was the title of a sensational ad.
