Während ihrer Schaffenszeit in London malte Angelika Kauffmann ab Mitte der 1770er Jahre mehrere einfigurige Historienbilder verlassener Frauen auf Kupfer im hochovalen Kabinettformat, darunter die auf ihrer Insel zurückgelassenen, dem Odysseus nachtrauernde Kalypso.


Oil on metal. The paint surface in good condition with a fine network of craquelure. Slight colour abrasions along the edges.Under UV light: Minimal retouching visible on the figure and some retouching in the background. The varnish fluoresces a greenish colour. Overall in very good condition.Frame: 48.5 × 43.5 cm.
