MEISTER DES VERLORENEN SOHNES
active in Antwerp, 2nd half of 16th century
The naming of this master is based on the depiction of the Parable of the Prodigal Son in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna. He must have had a large and flourishing workshop in Antwerp in the 16th century, which produced not only paintings but also tapestries and painted glass panels. At the same time, stylistic echoes of his contemporaries in Antwerp, such as Pieter Coecke van Aelst (1502–1550), Pieter Aertsen (1508–1575) and Frans Floris (1516–1570), can be seen in his oeuvre.
