JAN JANSZ. DE HEEM

(Antwerpen 1650–circa 1695 London)

The fine atmosphere of the painting is due to elements of space, the harmonious distribution of the objects, the colour composition and the lively, fresh aspect by the water drops. Space is determined by a diagonal from lower left to upper right, leaving the main objects with a rectangular triangle which occupies only one third of the surface of the painting. Most colours are soft hues in between red, green, yellow and grey, or related hues like orange, purplish and brownish, with many transitions."
