Bronze, brown-black patina. Cast from 1945.
Signed back left: Wotruba. With the foundry mark on the backside: K.STUTZ / KUNSTGIESSEREI/ZÜRICH.
58 x 35 x 19.5 cm.
The bronze is a design for a monument to Gustav Mahler.
With a confirmation ("Urkunde") by Fritz Wotruba, 11 December 1945: "(...) The figure is an original first cast and I undertake, if ever, to let found only one unsaleable cast more for my possession only "(...)"(translated from German).
Provenance: Collection Dr. Hans Landis, Zug, bought directly from the artist and by descent to the present owners.
