Montmartre, rue Norvins.

We would like to thank Jacques Bailly for confiming the authenticity of the work, May 2020.

Provenance:
German Private collection.

After the First World War, Jean Dufy settled in Montmartre, where Braque was his neighbour. The artist was very much inspired by the environment there, and the city of Paris thenceforth became the love of the painter from Le Havre. Similar to his contemporaries Utrillo, Chagall and Marquet, Jean Dufy produced numerous views of the city on the Seine with its countless sights in a constantly evolving creative process and in his typical free style. Especially Montmartre and its landmark, the Sacré Cœur, are motifs that he repeatedly adopted.
