Lot 1028 - A190 Decorative Arts - Thursday, 26. September 2019, 10.00 AM

SILVER-GILT BESAMIM VESSEL IN THE SHAPE OF AN OWL,

19th century, with applied fantasy marks.
Later Hebrew inscription: "(...) You who have created the varieties of spices" and the small holes in the head of the owl suggest that the present vessel was designed as a besamim vessel. The original lower part was replaced by a Transylvanian part, which probably stems from the 17th/18th century.
H ca. 19.5 cm. 425 g.

Provenance:
Swiss private collection.
