MOTHER-OF-PEARL AND GOLD CIGARETTE CASE, BY FABERGÉ, St. Petersburg, ca. 1890.

Marked Fabergé and maker's mark Michael Perchin in Cyrillic, 84 Zolotniky.
In rococo taste, the cover applied with gold cipher "WA" for Grand Duke Vladimir Alexandrovich, the whole overlaid with gold scrolls and flowers, the ends with trellis pattern, silver-gilt interior. Ca. 8,8 x 5,3 x 2,4 cm.

Mother-of-pearl objects are rare in Fabergé's production. The closest comparable for this object is the upright cigarette case, also by Perchin, illustrated in: G. von Habsburg, Fabergé: Hofjuwelier der Zaren, 1986, no. 275, p. 180.
