GOLD WRITING COMPENDIUM, IN TEMPIETTO FORM, OF NAPOLEONIC INTEREST, ca. 1820.

Maker's mark AJS, probably for A.J. Strachan of London.
Of tempietto form, the square base with cut corners chased with the profile of Napoleon backed by a miniature trophy, his crowned initials with similar background, on horseback crossing the bridge at Austerlitz and crossing the Alps, after Jacques Louis David, the angles applied with fasces, the hinged base opening to reveal an inkwell with screw cap, the top of the base with a glazed compartment. The four detachable Corinthian columns concealing the following writing instruments in gold: a steel-bladed knife, a pen, a pencil and a toothpick, surmounted by a bloodstone dome with slip-lock. H ca. 12,2 cm.
