BUREAU CABINET WITH UPPER SECTION,

Spanish Colonial, Mexico, 18th/19th century.
South American hardwoods, and bone inlaid as stars, geometric reserves and friezes. Retracted upper section with double-doors over inclined, hinged writing surface, and lower section with double-doors. The doors of the upper section open up into shelves, the writing surface into 5 drawers arranged in 2 rows. The doors of the lower section open up into 4 drawers arranged in 3 rows.
100 x 47(78) x 193 cm.

Losses to the marquetry. Doors, slightly warped.

- Old Swiss private collection.

The bureau cabinet on offer is a particularly nice example of bureau cabinets made in the Spanish colonies in the European style. The magnificent inlays and geometric motifs can be found in other Colonial furniture of the time.
