LACQUERED BRACKET CLOCK WITH DATE
George III, England, 2nd half of the 18th century. The dial and movement, signed Devereux Bowly London (free of Clockmakers Company 1718–1759).
Rectangular wooden case, red-lacquered in the " goût chinois". Silvered chapter ring, with the hours in Roman numerals and the minutes in Arabic numerals, within a gilt bronze surround featuring pierced tendrils and heads. Round reserve, framed by a laurel garland, with signature. Movement with lever escapement, striking the hour on bell. Striking mechanism can be turned off.
