AN EIGHTFOLD SCREEN (BYOBU) BY UNKOKU TOSON (1759-1810).

Japan, around 1800, width 377 cm, 175×49 cm (one panel).
Ink and colours on paper. Expressive painting of a pair of silver pheasants on a pine, entwined with wisteria and peonies. Aside a pair of herons. Two seals, Toson and another seal. Minor damages and restorations, signs of age.

Provenance: Swiss private collection, purchased at La Vieille Fontaine Antiques, Rolle (western part of Switzerland).
