Seven scenes from the stories of the Apostles: The miraculous catch of fish (Luke 5: 1-11), The blinding of Elymas (Acts 13: 6-12), The healing of the lame man (Acts 3: 1-8), Christ's invitation to Peter (Matthew 16: 18-19 and John 21: 15-17), The death of Ananias (Acts 5: 1-5), Paul preaching in Athens (Acts 17: 16-34), The sacrifice in Lystra (Acts 14: 8-18).

Die hier angebotenen Gemälde gehen auf eine Serie von sieben grossen Wandteppich-Kartons, die aus einer Serie von zehn erhalten sind und Raphael zwischen 1515 und 1516 im Auftrag von Papst Leo X. für die Sixtinische Kapelle im Vatikanpalast entwarf. Die Wandteppiche zeigen Szenen aus den Evangelien und der Apostelgeschichte und werden zu besonderen Anlässen unterhalb den von Papst Sixtus in Auftrag gegebenen Fresken des Lebens Christi und des Lebens von Moses aufgehängt. Die Kartons gehören der britischen Royal Collection, sind aber seit 1865 eine Leihgabe des Victoria and Albert Museum in London (Inv.-Nr. ROYAL LOANS.2–8). Die Wandteppiche waren neben Michelangelos Deckengemälde in der Sixtinischen Kapelle die berühmtesten und einflussreichsten Werke der Renaissance und waren allen Künstlern der Renaissance und des Barocks durch Reproduktionen in Form von Drucken bekannt.


Oil on canvas, old relining. One with a restored canvas tear. Paint surface with a fine network of craquelure. Superficial scratches visible in places. Slight canvas stretcher marks and colour abrasions along the edges in places.Under UV: some retouching on the figures and in the background. Varnish appears in fluorescent green.Frame: each ca. 75 × 88 cm.
