A PAIR OF BRONZE FIGURES "LE BAISER DONNÉ ET LE BAISER RENDU" ("THE KISS GIVEN AND THE KISS RETURNED")
This depiction is based on marble sculptures by Jean-Antoine Houdon, which he created between 1772 and 1780. The models were very popular and were still frequently copied in the 19th century. A version of the two groups of figures from 1790, attributed to Pierre-Philippe Thomire, is part of the Wallace Collection in London (Inv. Nos.: S218 and S217).
