A PAIR OF CANDELABRA ”CUPID AND PSYCHE"

Louis XVI, France, end of the 18th century.
Bronze, chased and gilt, and in part with a brown patina. The figural shaft in the form of Cupid and Psyche as children, each holding up a two-branched candelabrum in the form of a flowering branch. On a cylindrical base in white or “Vert-de-mer” marble, mounted with chased and gilt bronze friezes and beading.
H 42 cm.

Fine crack in the wing of the butterfly. Bronze somewhat tarnished in places. Rubbed patina. Scratches and abrasions on the gilding. Marble with chipped edges. Loose beading.
