Dieses Gemälde zeigt den stolzen Capitaine des Mousquetaires in historischer Tracht auf seinem Schimmel in einer weiten Landschaft. Die Komposition findet sich in einem Pastell in einer Privatsammlung wiederholt (74 x 60,5 cm, siehe Renauld Beaupère, Marie-Christine: Alfred de Dreux - le peintre du cheval, Caracole, 1988, S. 27 mit Abb.), ebenso die Tracht und Physiognomie des Capitaine, der in dem Gemälde in einer Privatsammlung aufgegriffen wird (74 x 60,5 cm, ebd., S.26 mit Abb.).
