Michel Rodrigue bestätigt die Eigenhändigkeit anhand einer Fotografie, wofür wir ihm danken. Er datiert das Gemälde um 1872-1874 und ordnet es in den Zeitraum ein, wo Richet zusammen mit Diaz den Wald von Fontainebleau zum Thema seiner Werke machte.
