SMALL BOULLE CLOCK with plinth,Regence, the dial and movement signed PIERRE DEBAUFRE DE LONDRES A PARIS (Pierre Debaufre, maitre 1675), Paris circa 1700 Red/brown tortoiseshell and gilt bronze. Bronze dial with 24 enamel cartouches for hours and minutes as well as a central cartouche. Verge escapement with 4/4 striking on 3 bells. Rich bronze mounts and applications. 24x44x66 cm.
Provenienz: Schweizer Privatbesitz. Der Uhrmacher P. Debaufre stammte ursprünglich aus Paris und wurde 1675 zum Meister ernannt; einige Jahre später liess er sich in London nieder, wo er 1689 bis 1722 Mitglied der "Clockmakers Company" war. Zusammen mit seinem Bruder Jacob und dem Physiker, Mathematiker und Astronom Nicolas Fatio de Duillier erhielt er 1704 das englische Patent zur alleinigen Herstellung von Uhrenlagern aus Edelstein. Ein Jahr später gelang es Debaufre, den Zylinder einer Uhr mit Sautroghemmung aus einem Diamanten herzustellen. Lit.: G.H. Baillie, Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World, S. 78 (biogr. Angaben).
