In the years 1926 and 1927, Stoecklin travelled to North Africa. Some interesting paintings were produced during this time, such as the present work, as well as others from Marabout in Didi Bou Said (cf. Vögele, Christoph: Niklaus Stoecklin 1896-1982, Basel 1996, pp. 78ff, in particular plate no. 28, p. 83).
