Horae B.M.V. -

Latin book of hours manuscript on smoothen parchement. With 3 colored and gilt miniatures and 8 gorgeous initials on 6-7 lines, as well as lots of initials on 2 lines, all in color and gold.
Holland, around 1460-1470. 10 x 17 cm. [3] white leaves, [197] leaves. 15 lines. Black-brown textura on red lines. Lettering space 5,5 x 4 cm. Restored leather binding by using the original binding on the covers, over 4 bounds (closure lacking, extremity of spine defective, spine rubbed and bumped, jointure bursted). In new cloth cassette with gilt etiquitte on the spine with title and year, inside decorated with velvet (edges a little rubbed).

Probably southern Holland around 1460-1470, the bishop Amandus marked in red in the calender (february) comes from Maastricht, where he is very popular. Also the style of the book illumination suggest that the manuscript was made around 1460 in Holland. Furthermroe the coat of arms with the lion on the blue background probably remark on the dukedom of Geldern. - A little dusty and fingerspotty (first and last leaves stronger). Sometimes a little damp stains with smal blurring of the text, first layer loosen. - There are no obvious lacking pages. - Provenance: Old written remark by B. B. Edward "bought for 3 1/2 Thaler at Berlin, Oct. 14, 1816" on a white leaf. Furthermore "presented to E. A. Park, by Mrs. Edwards, July 5, 1852." - Swiss private collection.
