Lot 447 - A185AS Asian Art: Japan, India, South-East Asia - Thursday, 07. June 2018, 02.00 PM

A FINE MINIATURE PAINTING OF A DERVISH WITH A DOG.

India, Mughal, 17th c. 13.5x7.4 cm.
Pigment colours on paper, heightened with gold. The bearded derwish is pictured with red garments in a stony landscape, with a single tree, flower and bushes in the distance. A sitting dog turns its head towards him. Sky partly later addition. Framed under glass.

The later addition is executed in the Persian painting style of the 18th c. and made probably in order to fit better into an album. There is thus reason to presume that the Indian miniature painting has been integrated into an album in Persia sometime during the 18th. c.
Provenance: Swiss private collection.
