ORIENTALIA -

Koran.
Arabic manuscript on smoothed paper. With double pages illuminated title page and a lot of illuminated sura captions and marks of recitation. Multiple frame with 15 lines in black ink.
Ottoman empire, dated 1216h. (1801-1802). 23,5 x 16 cm. 1 blank, 305, 1 blank sheets. Blind embossed and guilt leather binding (clasp missing, bumped, a little rubbed and scratchy, smal missings in the cover).

Accurate and vocalized naskhi. Signed to the colophonby Muhammad al-Fardi, also known as 'Hamil al-Quaran' (=the one who knows the Koran off by hear). - Title, the first and the last layers a little loosen (one layer in the back glued with Tesa to the gutter margin), binding partly bursted, title torn in to the lower binding margin, 2 sheets with not really proper restorations, sometimes text blurring, to the margins browned, partly a little damp stained, allover clean. - Title recto and another sheet stamped 'Vakif''. Another old ownership stamp (probably before 1900) on the title recto, but slightly visible.
