PAIR OF FAIENCE WILD BOARS AFTER A MODEL FROM ANTIQUITY, 'IL PORCELLINO',

Italy, ca. 1800. SALE ROOM NOTICE: Revised dating of probably 19th century.
Each on a rectangular plinth, white glaze with craquelure, the base with a manganese wash. No mark.
L 50 cm, 52 cm.

Made after a Hellenistic model from Antiquity (336-30 B.C.), which was copied and reproduced from the Renaissance up until the 19th century within Italy and beyond its borders.
