A BUDDHIST MARBLE STELE.

China, northern and southern dynasties, 6th c. Height 62 cm.
Of rectangular shape, with rich details in high and low relief. A buddha is seated in a central niche, flanked by monks and bodhisattvas. Minor damages and restorations.

Provenance: Collection Colonel Paul Kuhlo (1866-1943), Bielefeld, Germany. German private collection, acquired in the early 1990s from the estate of the descendants of Paul Kuhlo. German art dealer.
Paul Kuhlo studied Sinology in Berlin, Germany and served as an adjutant and interpreter from 1905 until 1908 in China. 1912 he was the commander of the East Asian marine detachment in China and after the German capitulation of 1914 he fell in Japanese war imprisonment until 1920.

中國,南北朝時期。
矩型碑,豐富精美的浮雕細節。一尊佛像在中心佛龕內,兩側站立菩薩和僧侶。局部有傷,經修復。
來源:原Paul Kuhlo上校(1866-1943) 收藏,比勒费尔德市,德國。德國私人收藏,於1990年代早期從Paul Kuhlo上校後人處購得。德國藝術交易商。Paul Kuhlo曾在德國柏林學習漢學,並於1905年至1908年在中國擔任副官及口譯員。1912年,他是中國東海海上支隊指揮官,1914年德國投降後,他被收押在日本戰爭的監禁,直到1920年。
