MAZER GOBLET,

Zurich, probably late 16th early 17th century. Unmarked.
Walnut with silver gilt mounts and interior plaque with coat of arms and the dedication "H CVNRATT GROSSMANN BVRGERMEISTER". Conrad Grossmann served as mayor of Zurich from 1591 to 1609. He was a member of the guild of tailors, salt house clerk, governor of Wädenswil and sheriff at the city court. A portrait of Conrad Grossmann, dated 1613 and painted by Dietrich Meyer the Elder, is owned by the Züricher Zentralbibliothek (cantonal, city and university library of Zurich) (Inv. 462).
