RARE PORCELAIN BOX,

Schrezheim, c. 1770-1775.
Gilt copper mount. Rectangular form with rectangular domed cover surmounted by a lying puppy. Painted with small flower bouquets on greyish glaze. Without mark.
6.7x4.3x5.5 cm. Restoration on the cover.

A comparable box from Schrezheim modelled with squirrels in Beaucamp-Markowsky, p. 386 no. 317.

Comparable depiction of a dog from Meissen "Das Hündlein der Königin" in the Pauls Collection and on the interior cover of a snuff box, cf. Barbara Beaucamp-Markowsky, Porzellandosen des 18. Jahrhunderts, 1985, p. 93 no. 64; (Röbbig München pub.), Meissener Tabatieren des 18. Jahrhunderts, 2013, p. 307 cat. no. 90.

Even Kändler had formed a comparable dog in Meissen "Vor Ihro Maji. die Königin ein kleines Hündlein...", as can be found in the work reports of 1738. (U. Pietsch, Die Arbeitsberichte des Meissener Porzelanmodelleurs Johann Joachim Kaendler, 2002, p.58.)
