LIDDED TANKARD

London, 1683. Maker's mark John Sutton.
Slightly tapering, cylindrical wall with very fine chinoiserie decoration. The side with a raised push button.
H 15.3 cm. 690 g. Silver 925.

John Sutton was one of London's most famous silversmiths in the 17th century. Sutton completed his training as a silversmith with John Winterton. The tankard on offer, with its fine chinoiserie decoration, is extremely rare.

A porringer with chinoiseries from the workshop of John Sutton was part of the Richard C. Paine Collection, Boston.
