Amsterdam, J. F. Bernard, 1730. Folio. [4] leaves, 51 pages. - BOUND WITH: De Europische Insecten. With engraved title vignette, vignette at end and 184 engravings on 47 plates. Ibid. [2] leaves, 84 pages. Contemporary full leather with red spine label, rich floral gilt decoration on spine and covers, as well as on standing and outer edges (front hinge cracking, the corners slightly bumped, slight traces of scratching).

Not in Plesch and De Belder. - The third Dutch and fourth edition overall. Compared to the first edition of 1705, increased by 12 plates. - II. Nissen BBI 1342 - Hagen I, 536 - Horn-Schenkling III, 14993 - Pfeiffer A9 - Dunthorne 205 - Great Flower Books 67 - Hunt 483 - Storm van Leeuwen IIB, 4.2.8: "The quality of the work, both technical and aesthetic, suggests a workshop that produced luxury bindings on a regular basis, and the few surviving bindings represent goods that were quite rare for the time." - First folio edition with Dutch text, also published in French by Bernard in the same year. - "The first folio edition and the first appearance of the full suite of Maria Merian's plates of the European insects, the companion and complement to her great Surinam work... It is remarkable for its botanical as for its entomological content" (De Belder 238/II).
