According to Claire Denis, the granddaughter of the artist, the painting is an important work. It was created during the honeymoon in Perros-Guirec. In his diary "Notes picturales du voyage de noces" the artist writes: "Faire un bateau vert noir avec des bruns, des ocres, des jaunes, des têtes rouges sur une jetée d'or, la mer jaune foncé et traines bleu vert clair - lointains bleus sombre, chemi[n ou ise| rose / voile rouge". A drawing of this can be found on p. 32 of the diary. Later a lithograph of this subject has been created.
