Lot 2870 - A197 Wristwatches & Pocketwatches - Wednesday, 30. June 2021, 05.00 PM

Rolex, very rare "Paul Newman" Daytona in exceptional condition, ca. 1968.

Yellow gold 750.
D 37 mm.

This Cosmograph Daytona is in an exceptional condition. The pristine dial has all the original luminous dots, which also match the luminous hands. The champagne-colored dial provides a fine contrast to the black subsidiary dials. Below 6h is the correct, slightly cursive "T Swiss T" imprint. The case and the bezel still have their original edges and finishes, the gold stamps are clearly visible. The engravings between the lugs are likewise perfectly visible. The movement is almost pristine, but could use a cleaning and lubrication after having spent a few decades in a vault.
About 300 pieces of reference number 6239 were produced in yellow gold, but only a few of them were fitted with the champagne-colored Paul Newman dial.
