Born in the Russian Empire, Konstantin Gorbatov fled to Italy in 1922, in the wake of the Russian Revolution. Having worked as a professor at the Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg, he initially settled in Capri. Even during his lifetime, Gorbatov had a number of international exhibitions, demonstrating that his unmistakable style was appreciated early on in his career. In the present work, the artist masterfully fuses the flair of the Mediterranean, rendered in Gorbatov’s distinct post-impressionist inter-pretation, with a vibrant palette characteristic of his work.
