A PUA KUMBU CEREMONIAL CLOTH.

Indonesia, Borneo, Sarawak, Iban, early 20th c. 190 × 92 cm.
Warp ikat of handspun cotton in red-brown hues of natural dyes. The pattern consists of trees with branches and frogs at the upper margin. The edges finished in small ikat, red, green and undyed stripes. With hanging loops.

Provenance: Old Swiss private collection, acquired in Sarawak ca. 1990 (no documents available).
