PIETER BRUEGHEL I.

A warship with full sails, to the left and another small ship. 1565.
Engraving on laid paper with watermark jug with flowers (Briquet 12523).
Engraved inscription and monogram lower left: BRUEGHEL; F.H.; inscribed lower left: H. Cock ex.
31.5 x 24.7 cm. Framed.

Hollstein 100 I (of II); Bastelaer 100 I (of II); Orenstein (New Hollstein) 64 II (of III, with the address of Cock, before trimming the plate).- Very fine, strong impression with rich contrast, the upper right corner with slightly omitted areas. Predominantly with thread margins, the top with margin (approx. 1.5 cm) around the platemark. The left margin partly trimmed slightly to the platemark or up to the image. At the top left margin two tiny lesions in the margin. A closed wormhole upper right. Otherwise in very fine condition. - Very rare.
