HELBARD

Swiss, last third of the 17th century. So-called "Sempacher helbard", Bernese-Neuchâtel version.
Blade-shaped tip, diamond section, with square reinforcement away from the tip, rectangular blade with convex edge. Flat beak-shaped hook. Mark "IP" in shield. Two long langets. Square shaft.
L 210.5 cm.

Provenance:
- Collection M. Sigrist, Lucerne.

The mark is attributed to Jean Jaques Perrelet, mentioned in 1660 in Le Locle, Canton Neuchâtel. Cf. Schneider, Schweizer Waffenschmiede, 1976, p. 210. Wegeli, Stangenwaffen, Hist. Museum Bern, 1939, pp. 50/57, Nos. 1372/1405, helbard dated back to the 15th century.
