PAIR OF WALL-MOUNTED LAMPS FROM THE GROSSMÜNSTER ZURICH

Historicism, Zurich ca. 1850/1860 in the style of Romanesque art.
Chased bronze and brass. Solid wall mounts, with scrolled leaves and dragons. Each with three shades designed as lilies of the valley.
H 126 cm, D 82 cm.

Provenance:
- Swiss private property.

These wall-mounted lamps are from the Grossmünster in Zurich and were mounted on the pillars of the nave.
It can be assumed that they were mounted in the course of the restoration of the interior in 1851-1853. The aim of this restoration was to remove the later Baroque elements and to return to the Romanesque origins of the church.
During a later renovation, under of the cantonal architect Hermann Fietz in 1913-1915, the lamps were removed again and replaced by wall-mounted lights, the design of which came from Fietz. Cf.
