Provenance: Collection of Klaus Clausmeyer (1887–1968), a painter and important collector of non-European art. According to his biography he was fighting in Belgium during World War I when a buddha head came rolling to his feet from a collapsing house. He then started collecting buddhist art and later on increasingly tribal art as well.
