This model was first introduced in 2011. As a distinctive technical feature, the watch on offer is equipped with a minute repeater, which is considered the ultimate in watchmaking. The Reference No. 5073 excels by its exceptional sound quality. Patek Philippe conducted lengthy research in metallurgy and acoustics until they were able to manufacture a gong with this incomparably pure sound. To match the exceptional inner workings of the timepiece, the platinum case was set with precious baguette-cut diamonds. Each diamond (total weight almost 5.3 ct) had to be individually cut to fit its position in the case.
This marvel of watch-making art could not simply be ordered from a Patek Philippe concessionaire. One had to literally apply for it, almost hand in a resume, and Mr. Stern (owner of Patek Philippe) then personally decided whether this watch would be delivered, after 1-3 years of meticulous labor.
Only very few of these timepieces were ever made, the one on offer comes directly from the first owner and is only the fourth reference 5073 offered for sale at an auction.
