A GOLD LACQUER AND SHIBAYAMA-INLAID VASE AND COVER.

Japan, Meiji period, height 21 cm.
Rhomboid body ond stand, mounted with silver dragon handles, a waxwing on a stump tops the cover. The fronts decorated with lobed inset panels depicting playing children and ducks in a iris pond, in typical Shibayama style of inlaid mother-of-pearl and bone. Signed in circular seal mark 'Fuku'.

Provenance: Old Swiss private collection, purchased before 1970 (no invoice), hence by descent.
