SAINT ANNE AND THE VIRGIN AND CHILD ('ANNA SELBDRITT')
Gothic, Alsace or Franconia, mid-15th century.
Carved lime, verso hollowed, and with remains of paintwork. Saint Anne is carrying Mary on her left arm and the Infant Jesus on her right arm. Mary has her hair open and is wearing a girded robe. She is holding a book in one hand and a pear in the other hand. The naked Infant Jesus is sitting with his left leg bent and with his left hand touching his toes.
H 110 cm.
With remains of different paintwork. Hand of the Infant Jesus is missing, one finger of Anna is missing. Major chips on the base. Garment fold on the left-hand side is incomplete.
