Born in 1979, Chris Succo studied at the renowned Düsseldorf Art Academy under Georg Herold between 2003 and 2009 and became his Masters student. After successfully completing his studies, Succo moved to London, where he studied at Goldsmiths College in 2009/2010 and the following two years at the Royal College of Art. In 2009 he received the DHCS Fellowship of the Düsseldorf Kunstverein and in 2010 a fellowship from the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, and the Carte Blanche, Schichtwechsel Kunstverein in Liechtenstein. Soon his works were being seen in group and solo shows nationally and internationally. Today Chris Succo lives and works in Düsseldorf.
He experiments with the most diverse media and uses materials such as aluminium, steel, oil paint and canvas. In his colour palette he focusses almost exclusively on opaque black and white, and lays bare his expressive painting process.
In his works, Succo plays skilfully with combinations and contrasts. By concentrating on one colour, in addition to white, the present works exude an unbelievable sense of peace. At the same time, the expressive, impastoed brush strokes bring a great dynamism to the composition. It is thanks to his consummate skill that these contrasting qualities do not work against each other but produce a harmonious work of timeless beauty.
