PERCUSSION DOUBLE FLINTLOCK GUN

German, ca. 1825/30, hunting weapon, Teutenberg, Werl.
Round barrels (L 85.4 cm), Cal. 16 mm, band bluing rubbed, center rail with front sight. Chain locks on the back, cocks with screw device for primers, flat lock plates, signed "TEUTENBERG A WERL". Lock with engraved tendril decoration. Iron mount, butt cap, three ramrod sleeves, horn trigger guard. Carved walnut half-stock, decorated with a stag and hinds in a forest, floral ornaments. Silver medallion with owner's coat-of-arms below a crown.
L 125.6 cm.

An exceptionally-rare early percussion weapon from the town of Werl (North Rhine-Westphalia) which had belonged to Prussia since 1816. Work by the previously-unknown gunsmith Teutenberg. The standard work by E. Heer does not mention any gunsmiths active in Werl.
