LUCERNE HAMMER
Swiss, 1st third of the 17th century.
Square tip with a wider base. The attached hammer section consists of four diverging long square tips, and transitions into a slightly curved, long square beak at the rear. In the center of the hammer part, square parrying spikes on both sides, which also serve for fixing. Two langets and shaft bands, ferrule and square shaft, not original.

The term "Lucerne hammer" was created by the Lucerne art and weapons collector J. Meyer-Bielmann and first published by A. Demmin in 1869 in his "Guide des Amateurs d'Armes". In the Lucerne Armory inventory, this weapon appears as a "murder axe" since the end of the 16th century. It was produced until the end of the 17th century and used until the 18th century. Cf.
