SMALL BOX WITH SILVER DECORATION BETWEEN GLASS

Historicism, Paris ca. 1860, signed Normant (probably Henry Normant).
Bronze engraved with blossoms and foliage, and gilt. Rectangular body with hinged corners. The corners set with small bronze figures in niches, standing on the projecting scrolled feet. Curved handle. The walls and the lid are double-glazed, and in-between the glass panes are engraved and pierced decorations in silver, featuring depictions of instrument-shaped medallions surrounded by opulent vines; the decoration in the lid features a couple in a landscape, the one in the front features peasants. 1 key.
18.5 x 9.5 x 13.5 cm.

Henry Normant worked as a bronzer and enameller in Paris until 1878. He participated in numerous World Fairs between 1851 and 1878, and won various awards, including the Gold Medal in 1867, for the quality of his workmanship. Due to his reputation, Normant received various commissions from larger companies, such as Tiffany & Co, Susses Frères as well as the Maison Alphonse Giroux. P.
