PAIR OF FIGURES DEPICTING DANCING PEASANTS

Meissen, ca. 1749-50, the models probably by Johann Joachim Kändler and Peter Reinicke.
Underglaze blue sword marks on the rear of the bases.
H 19 cm and 20 cm.

Small restorations.

According to the Dresden Porcelain Collection, the dancing peasant woman was designed as a counterpart to a lyre-playing peasant man by Kändler (cf. Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden, Inv. No. 258), the model for these figures was an engraving by Edmé Bouchardon (1698 - 1762) from the series "Etudes prises dans le bas peuple ou Cris de Paris".
Comparable items for this lot: R. Rückert, Meissener Porzellan, 1966, Table 232, Nos. 954, 955 (as counterparts).
