Walde's "Mountain Spring" subtly captures the gentle transition from winter to spring, which can be sensed both in the landscape and the lives of the people.
Before our eyes unfolds the image of a stately farm on a mountainside, its striking shadow lying on the snow. The snow has not yet wholly melted in the pale spring morning sunshine. In the background, snow-capped mountains rise under a deep blue cloudless sky. The air is fresh and clear, a fine scent of renewal infuses it.
In front of the hut are two farmers, calm and intent, ready to work in the fields again after their winter break. The heavy tools rest on their shoulders and embody the dignity of their work, which is in accord with the rhythm of the seasons. The scenery radiates a quiet, almost solemn tranquility that allows us to immerse ourselves fully in this moment of reawakening.
In this work, Alfons Walde uses dense, impasto brushstrokes that give the scene an expressive solidity and presence, and make this picture of a snowy mountain landscape especially powerful and suggestive.
