AUGUSTUS REX COVERED VASE , Meissen, circa 1735.Painted on both sides with merchant shipping scenes with Oriental and European figures, against a pink ground with polychrome Indianischen Blumen and insects. The lid similarly decorated with shipping scene and figures in a Dutch landscape. Underglaze blue mark AR. H 44cm. The neck heavily restored, the non-matching lid heavily restored. Provenance: from an important private collection, Basel
Provenienz: Aus einer bedeutenden Privatsammlung, Basel. Die horizontal verlaufenden Blumenranken findet man vergleichbar auf einigen Vasen der Sammlung in der Münchener Residenz und im Bayrischen Nationalmuseum in München, siehe bei R. Rückert, Meissner Porzellan 1710-1810, 1966, S. 100 Nr. 364, 365 und 368. Abb. Taf. 92,93 und 94. Eine nahezu identisches Stück bei Christie's Paris, 14. Dezember 2004, lot 71.
