PAIR OF LARGE FAUTEUILS "A LA REINE", Louis XVI, stamped H. IACOB (Henri Jacob, maitre 1779), Paris circa 1770. Fluted and finely carved and gilt beech with bows, flowers and wave band, the seat "à chassis", the legs with twisted fluting and golden yellow silk covers with putti, leaves and frieze. 64x64x45x105 cm. Provenance: from a German collection.
Provenienz: Aus deutschem Besitz. Sehr bedeutendes Paar von hoher Eleganz, stark beeinflusst von Sitzmöbeln der Ebenistendynastie Séné, insbesondere von jenen des Jean-Baptiste Claude Séné. Das Château de Fontainebleau und das Musée du Louvre in Paris besitzen mehrere Sitzmöbel mit nahezu identischen "pieds fuselés à cannelures torses". Sie sind abgebildet in: P. Kjellberg, Le mobilier français du XVIIIe siècle, Paris 1987; S. 812f. H. Jacob war der Cousin von Georges Jacob, dem Begründer der wohl wichtigsten Sitzmöbelhersteller-Dynastie des ausgehenden 18. Jahrhunderts. Obwohl sich H. Jacob an den Werken seines Cousins orientierte, fand er für seine Sitzmöbel eine eigene Formen- und Dekorationssprache, die sich durch eine ausserordentlich feine und akkurate Schnitzerei auszeichnete.
