MANTEL CLOCK "AUX CHEVAUX AILES",Louis XVI, the dial signed SCHMIT A PARIS (Jean Nicolas Schmidt, maitre 1781), Paris circa 1785/90. "Carrara" marble and matte and polished gilt bronze. The round case with figure of a woman playing a lyre, with 2 winged horses and putti. The clock with enamel dial and indicators for minutes, hours, days of the month and with a verge escapement striking the 1/2 hours on bell. Fine gilt bronze mounts in the form of a relief plaque with bow and arrow, flowers, garlands, rosettes and beading. 51x14x60 cm. Provenance: from a Paris collection.
Provenienz: Aus einer französischen Sammlung. Feine Pendule von hoher Qualität. Sie erinnert in ihrer Grundstruktur an eine heute im Cabinet d'Estampes in der Bibliothèque Nationale von Paris aufbewahrte und ins Jahr 1780 datierte Federzeichnung (Inventarnr. Le 30,53). Sie ist abgebildet in: H. Ottomeyer / P. Pröschel, Vergoldete Bronzen - Die Bronzearbeiten des Spätbarock und Klassizismus, München 1986; I, S. 280 (Abb. 4.13.3). Hier wird festgehalten, dass der Stil der Zeichnung an den Entwurf für den Kaminbock der Princesse de Lamballe aus der Werkstatt des F. Rémond erinnert. Lit.: H.L.
