PAIR OF HALF-HEIGHT CABINETS WITH LACQUER PANELS,late Louis XVI, with signature B. MOLITOR (Bernard Molitor, maitre 1787), Paris circa 1800/1830. Tulipwood in veneer and inlaid with lacquer panels in "gout chinois"; depiction of a golden pagoda landscape with people, rocks, trees and ships on a black background. Fine, matte and polished gilt bronze mounts. Shaped, gray/pink/brown speckled marble top. Restorations. 120x44x102 cm. Ausserordentlich elegantes Paar von bestechender Qualität. Bereits im 18. Jahrhundert schuf Molitor Möbel mit feinen Lackpanneaux, von schlichter, vornehmer Zurückhaltung in der klassizistischen Formgebung, welche die feinen Lacktafeln betonen. Der Erfolg von Molitors Werk bestätigt die beeindruckende Qualität seiner Arbeiten und die ständige Suche nach neuen Formen. Während des Ancien Régime, der französischen Revolution, im Directoire, im Empire und während der Restauration gehörte die Elite Frankreichs zu Molitors Kundschaft. Lit.: P.
